This Hiking one pre-trip activity was targeted towards all the Heilongjiang Challenge Participants. This event aims to provide participants with guidance on staying physically fit and on preparing for challenges that could be faced in Heilongjiang. The participants also gained insight on various activities organized during the Heilongjiang trip. Lastly, this event bright together the participants to build a broader network with each other.

After all of Heilongjiang participants gathered at the Sai Wan Ho MTR station, we took NWFB Bus No.14 towards Stanley Fort to Tai Tam Country Park South Gate. All participants formed into their respective groups and hiked in two lines. Hiking 1 project manager, project director, assistant project director led the whole hiking team to Quarry bay. We arrived the first resting point at around 11:15. After a 10-minute break, we continued to walk the second part of the trail in the same formation. During this part, we spent about 30 minutes to hike from resting pint 1 to resting point 2. Then, we had a 30-minute break during which we took some team photos. After the second hike, it was an easy path as the rest of the hike was gentle. We finished the hike and arrived at Quarry bay at 13:30 which was earlier than expected. We, then, proceeded to have lunch and continued with the day.

Reflections

Sneha Hotchandani

I think it was quite a fruitful hike to prepare for HLJ. The weather was cool, and we trained our muscles by hiking uphill and well as downhill. Through this hiking, I also learned the various hand gestures to be used in Heilongjiang as it would be too cold to communicate or give commands to the whole group. We also hiked in small groups, reminding us to keep account of our team members here and when we go to Heilongjiang.

This activity is full of challenges to me because I seldom spend time on hiking or doing any other exercise. Although I feel exhausted, having a chance to go hiking with my own schoolmates and friends gives me a lot of motivation to keep moving on. During the hiking trip, we also take many good photos together and this can further strengthen the bonding among each other as we would not forget about this hiking trip. Indeed, I believe that this hiking activity helps me better prepare for the upcoming challenges in the HLJ trip.

The hiking was fun. I really liked the location. The view was marvellous. It was very long walk and tough. But it worth the view and fun I enjoyed. I felt good after the hike and happy that I joined. Moreover, I think Pre- Trip hiking really encouraged us to adopt healthy life style and be physically strong so in the in the future we can take up any sort of challenges like Heilongjiang challenges.

It is a very memorable and valuable experience, because it is a group exercise activity which I seldom get the chance to bond with other people through physical activity, also I seldom engage with hiking activity, this activity gave me a complete different and new experience, total mind blown since there are so many beautiful things I haven't seen and discovered during the hiking and I get to know other people better, I would say this is an unforgettable trip.
