Pre-Trip Activity 1 - Thai Boxing

24th December, 2017 Sunday

Thai Boxing was held successfully. We were honored to invite our alumni, Alan, to be our coach of Thai Boxing. He and his teaching assistants are professionals and they were so passionate to teach us. As this was the first activity after the examination period, our challengers did a great job in learning the basic steps like combat and defense of Muay Thai.

Muay Thai is a combat sport of Thailand that uses stand-up striking along with various clinching techniques. This physical and mental discipline which includes combat on shins is known as "the art of eight limbs" because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, shins, being associated with a good physical preparation that makes a full-contact fighter very efficient. Muay Thai became widespread internationally in the twentieth century, when practitioners defeated notable practitioners of other martial arts.

Firstly, we started with some basic movements such as punching, elbow, kicking, knee and foot-thrust. Then, we used the mitts and targets for actual combat and further movement. After the practice, there was a little competition which was to count how many punches and kicks could each participant perform under a minute. In this competition, we could see our limitations and strengths, and could try to make up for our weaknesses.

All challengers took a group photo with the coaches.

The kick battle began with a kick! Everyone tried to kick as many times as they possibly could within 30 seconds.

Ken, Jason and Steven won the boys competition for the fastest kicks!

Prudence, Holly and Phelia won the girls competition for the most kicks and won little keychains.
